This type of soil is scattered throughout most provinces in the Northeast and ranges from severe to low concentrations. The total area affected is estimated to be 17.8 million rai (2.8 million hectares) or approximately 16.7% of the total Northeastern land area. Most saline soils appear in areas of paddy fields (Land Development Department 1996a).
