Students of the Japanese 301 and 302 classes traditionally prepare academic presentations to showcase the progress they have made over the semester. During the 2019 spring semester iteration of the course, however, the final three class meetings were allocated to a speech project involving manzai , a form of Japanese comedy performed in pairs. This paper reports on the instruction and implementation of manzai , focusing in particular on pair work and attention to the audience.
