We counted the adverbs used in 21 textbooks published during this period and identified their trends. Furthermore, we counted the number of times adverbs of degree, such as totemo, which emphasize the meaningo fth e subject, were used ine ach textbook, and investigated the trends in their use and their diachronic changes. The results revealed that adverbs of manner and degree are used with high frequency, while declarative adverbs are used less frequently. The results of the survey on certain adverbs of degree confirmed the diachronic feature of the establishment of taihen as a typical adverb of degree among the various adverbs in use.
