It takes Misawa Engineering Co., Ltd. (MEC), based in Misawa City, Japan and focuses on three phases, which are [1] establishment in Iida City, Japan, [2] relocating from Iida to Misawa, and [3] business expansion after the 1980s, as the developing process to the regional contributing type SME.  In this article, we clarify as follows. (1) Tamagawa Seiki Co., Ltd. (TSC), the parent company of MEC, supported employee independence positively to contribute to the development and revitalization of the hometown. MEC also became independent with the support of TSC. (2) When MEC transferred a base to Misawa just after its founding, TSC agreed with it and supported MEC positively from the viewpoint of regional promotion. It was essential for MEC to continue a long-term relationship with TSC, so that MEC stabilized its management in Misawa, where the precision instrument industry is undeveloped. (3) After the 1980s, MEC contributed to industrial development and the creation of employment opportunities in Misawa. Furthermore, MEC contributed to regional development indirectly by supporting the advance of TSC and its subcontractors to the Aomori Area. This article is important as a development case not only of subcontractors but also of a regional contributing type SME.
