This study investigated the relationship between distracting response style and mental health focusing on the concept of distraction. Response Styles Questionnaire (RSQ), Subjective Well-being Inventory (SUBI) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were utilized to survey 464 undergraduates. The results showed that: (1) In general, distracting response style had weak negative correlations with the maladjustment scores and weak positive correlations with the adjustment scores. (2) There was no significant interaction between mental health and the combination of distracting response style scores and ruminative response style scores. (3) Distracting response style was independently correlated with the adjustment scores. These findings show the possible influence of distracting response style on mental health. Difficulties of measuring distracting response style were also suggested. Further consideration of a more accurate measurement is needed.
